Arnott leads Preds past Oilers in OT

03/03/2009 - Nashville, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jason Arnott's power-play tally 2:31 into overtime lifted Nashville over the Edmonton Oilers, 6-5, and increased the Predators' winning streak to a season-high five games.

In the extra session, Edmonton defenseman Jason Strudwick went to the penalty box for high-sticking, giving the Predators a 4-on-3. Nashville kept constant pressure in the Edmonton zone, and a little more than a minute into the power play, Predators defenseman Shea Weber blasted a point shot from the left side.

It missed, but bounced hard off the back boards to the right side. Arnott was there and sent the puck through a crowd of players, several of whom had trouble locating the puck off the previous shot, into the net for the game- winner.

Arnott added a pair of assists, while David Legwand and Steve Sullivan each had a pair of goals for Nashville, which had previously won four in a row from February 1-6.

Ryan Suter also scored for Nashville, while Pekka Rinne took the win despite giving up five goals on 28 shots.

Sam Gagner had a goal and two assists for Edmonton, which has lost two of three. Erik Cole, Andrew Cogliano, Jean-Francois Jacques and Marc Pouliot had a goal apiece for the Oilers, while Dwayne Roloson allowed six goals on 43 shots in the loss.

Edmonton trailed, 3-2, going into the third period but quickly got the equalizer, as Cogliano scored just 1:43 into the frame. Then, Jacques gave the Oilers the lead with his first NHL goal at 5:15, making it a 4-3 game.

But the lead swung in Nashville's direction as Sullivan had back-to-back tallies 1:10 apart.

On the first, coming at 7:56, J.P. Dumont sent a pass from the far right circle to the left circle for Arnott, who sent a pass back across to the right side for a one-timer from Sullivan.

Then, at 9:06, Sullivan was the recipient of a lucky bounce. Roloson made a glove save on a shot from Dan Hamuis, but couldn't hang on, as the puck deflected off the mitt and settled by the skate of Sullivan, who stood at the edge of the crease.

Sullivan kicked the puck from his left skate to the blade and sent it in the wide-open net for a 5-4 Nashville lead.

But the Oilers tied it up again, with 6:08 remaining, as Cole's backhander in front deflected off Rinne's right pad and went into the net. The teams were scoreless for the remainder of regulation.

Legwand's 18th goal of the season came 6:22 into the contest to put Nashville on the board, but Gagner and Pouliot had back-to-back goals later in the period to give Edmonton the lead. Legwand got his second goal with 1:34 left in the first to make it a 2-2 game.

Suter had the only goal of the second period, a power-play tally at 4:13, to make it a 3-2 Predators lead at the second intermission.

Game Notes

Nashville was 2-for-4 on the power play, while Edmonton went 0-for-3...The Predators won the season series, 3-1-0. Nashville swept the four-game series in each of the past two seasons, and the last time Edmonton won was in the 2005-06 season, when the Oilers took three of the four contests...Jacques was playing in his 55th NHL game, all with Edmonton.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.

The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.

Lucky, from North Hollywood, Calif., started six games last season as a sophomore and was the team's second-leading rusher, with 728 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 383 yards. He averaged 19.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.
